The horizon seemed to last forever, though she knew the continent lay beyond the sea, but at that moment she felt as if she were the only one in the world. Suddenly a lot of weight rose from her. It seemed as if the sea had taken that part of it that had known nothing but pain and sorrow in recent months, and had set it free. The crying came out, but Lily covered her mouth in an attempt to suppress the noise. She shouldn’t be crying, but maybe it was just tears of joyful gratitude. After all that time, she will finally be able to live without fear.
Time seemed to run at its own pace. The changing position of the sun in the sky is the only sign that the day is moving forward. How long did she stand there and look at the blue waters at the bottom? It’s definitely time to go back to the manor house. Lily took a few steps when she heard the horse approaching. Her pulse picked up and she froze in place. Who would come here, so far from anywhere? Should she try to rush to the safety of the forest, or wait?
No, she was tired of running and knew there was nothing to fear. The men who followed her did not know that she had fled to another part of the country. She waited, and a moment later a horse and a rider came into view, climbing the mountain on which she was standing.
The man turned young, perhaps around her age. He wore a long black riding coat, his tail bouncing off his back in time with a horse. His hat is hair, but she saw it darker. In general, she tended to call it fine. She saw it all in a matter of seconds before he pulled a horse in front of her.
About Laura Shipley
Laura Shipley is an indie writer writing historical Victorian romance with dark, disturbing heroes and strong-willed, furious heroines. Her love for romance began the first time she “borrowed” one of her mother’s books and hooked up. While she reads all genres, paranormal romance is close to a historical second.
When she doesn’t write, Laura loves spending time with her husband and kids. She has never met a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine that she did not like. Her third addiction is Starbucks and her never-ending need for caffeine to make creative juices flow. She prefers movies rather than TV, too much time, but likes to spend time outdoors, including hiking and rafting.
Her greatest joy is to move readers to another place and place with her books and for her readers to fall in love with the characters as much as she does. Lauros el.
